After the Minutemen Missile Museum, we headed to the Badlands of South Dakota.
The landscape is nothing I have every seen before. This mountains aren't really mountains but sediment, basically piles of dirt, that were formed at the bottom of a lake millions of years ago.
We were able to walk on it and climb some of it.
Bruce and Jennie went with Matthew for a mini hike while I hid in the car with the others since my allergies were really bad while we were here.
While at the visitor center at the Badlands, we learned about several of the extinct animals that lived around the lake including a large pig and a hornless rhino.
After the Badlands, we went to lunch at the famous Wall Drugstore.
Our final stop on our trip was Devils Tower in Wyoming. It was amazing to see. We managed to hike the 1.3 miles around the tower with only one scraped knee. (Poor Jennie)
This trip was wonderful! The weather was a great temperature. The kids slept really well in the hotel rooms--even with snoring and bed sharing. Since we managed to get to all our locations either early in the morning or just before closing time, the crowds were manageable. I know that this will be a happy childhood memory for them.
