Summer Camping

This past weekend, we drove 30 minutes to spend two days camping---we are sooo lucky to live in a place that has several state parks so close.

This camping trip, we went with one of Matthew's brother and his family. We had a great time playing games, chatting, and enjoying each other's company.

 Jennie loved playing with cousins and this time she slept on the top bunk--we are so proud of her. She and her dad also went on a junior ranger activity that the forest rangers were doing. They built two different kids of shelters.

 Matthew enjoyed sitting by the campfire. Of course, we had the traditional hot dogs and smores for one of our meals.

 Regina loved sitting on the ramp to our yurt. She also liked just playing in the yurt itself.

 We loved playing games with the cousins which included hide and go seek and colored eggs.

 Bruce had a hard time staying asleep while camping. The first night I thought it was because he was too cold, but he awoke the second night as well. Since he isn't much of a snuggler, he and I got to camp out in the back of the van. (not the most comfortable situation, but at least no one else in the campsite could hear him screaming.)

 One of the activities we did was a color hunt. We had to take pictures of things that were the color of the rainbow. Regina was my partner and she found this red leaf (or a feather as she was calling it.)

 The kids really wanted to go swimming but the river was much too fast for my kids, so we had a mini-splash party at our campsite. Bruce wanted to get in the bigger tub but there wasn't any room until the girls finished.

 Besides our traditional camping food of hot dogs and smores, we cooked bacon over the fire in foil and made banana boats. We saw the recipe in the August 2013 Friend.
